IBANEZ CHORUS/FLANGER DCF10
« on: November 15, 2010, 08:37:53 PM »
I found one of these on e-Bay, they appear every now & then. This is a rather rare unit, with two outputs: one normal, one inverted, which produces a stereo spatial effect when going through two speakers. It is being shipped as we speak, so I will give my review when it arrives. This is the same chorus/flanger used by Steve Khan on most of his recordings. From what I've heard of him, it sounds really good. Subtle, not pronounced.

Yeah, that's what I heard. Steve likes it because the chorus effect is more pronounced on chords, but more subtile with single notes. Give us your impressions when you get it.

Seems like a great price for something that's so rare.

I paid just over $100. Unfortunately, this unit is flawed: it makes an ugly digital distortion sound when I pick hard. It'll be too much hassle to return it...I'll see if a tech can look at it. I have a feeling that it's a bad diode or input resistor that a previous owner weakened by overloading it (with an overdrive, probably). Other than that, it sounds great: better than my Roland GP-100 preamp, or my TC Electronics G-Major. Of course, that's keeping a short signal path right into two amps.
