Listening to THAT fusion lp is like sucking creamcorn from the socket, then licking thirty year old tire carcass at the back of Planet Earth ParkingLot.

Wallace's Weather Report thread
« Reply #1 on: September 30, 2010, 06:04:00 AM »
Jaysus!

Its clear to see whats going on here.

This thread is about trashing Weather Report and WR-ish bands, not praising it.

If you want to praise, start up your own thread.

You MIScreants have deliberately (and profanely) MISapprehened/MISapplied/MISguided my thread.

You have not MISSed the point, but rather purposely derailed!

Does no one here agree with me that Weather Report is lameass?

Looks like this is the wrong place for me then.

Actually, Wally, I was pretty confuzed when you started this thread. I had seen you bash WR on other threads, but you didn't really make the purpose of this thread clear, at all. There's a lot of WR influence in fusion, but that doesn't mean the bands listed are clones. Somebody recently pointed out to me that Tribal Tech are very Weather Report-inspired, which I hadn't really thought of, but it totally makes since to me, now. Weather Report are not my favorite fusion band, but I do like 'em.

Um, I guess "lameass" is not the first thing that comes to mind when I think about Weather Report. But to each his own.

To a seasoned Pwog Masterman who cut his teeth on quality music, the music of Weather Report is akin to what the barrister/novelist John Mortimer thought of VIM.
Listening to THAT fusion lp is like sucking creamcorn from the socket, then licking thirty year old tire carcass at the back of Planet Earth ParkingLot.

I can see how this thread could become volatile. Wallace has clearly stated that it is his opinion that he doesn't like Weather Report. There is NOTHING wrong with that, as long as he doesn't start calling us idiots for liking W.R. (which he has not done). But it goes both ways: Wallace is perfectly entitled to his opinion, and should not be criticized for it, so let's keep it clean.

What is going here? Civility and tolerance on a music forum?!
This is madness! I'm going  somewhere where I can get belittled for not liking Keith Emerson, dammit!
Spank me, prog fans! I've been a bad boy!

Which Weather Report are you talkin' 'bout, Wally?

The Vitous Era?  The Alphonso Era?  The Jaco Era?  The Bailey Era?

IMO, quite different bands.....do you despise all of them? :)

Oi mate!
A "wally" is someone who is smart on a select few specialties but generally clueless,clumsy-stoopit on  most all else.

You want an answer to your question , you regale The Wallace and ask properlike (with deference).

Wallace, it is one thing to state, "I don't like Weather Report". It is another to encrypt such a sentiment, then thrash people because they misconstrued a somewhat disguised statement. The approach taken in initiating the thread, then the response to the ones who replied in a way not deemed satisfactory displays some serious anti-social behavior
