Kai Eckhardt loves America!
« on: January 03, 2014, 10:52:52 AM »
I caught a bit of Desert Island Jazz on KCSM in the car this morning.  Kai talked about his prior career in diving, and how sometimes he would land wrong. It hurt a lot, he said, which is partly how he got into music. Wrong notes don't hurt nearly as much, Kai said. He also said there were some Nazi diving instructors along the way, which didn't help. The song I heard him introduce as a Desert Island Disc out of his list of 10 was Horse With No Name by America! Not what I would have imagined. He said it relaxes him and it signifies the way America should be, riding along on a horse with no name in the desert.  :)

Cool, I wish I'd heard it. He's a very nice guy. I had no Idea he was a diver.

He came here as part of the Billy Cobham Trio in 1994. Me and a buddy just went right in to their dressing room, and Kai was the only guy in there. Thought he'd be pissed, but he was actually quite accommodating.

Wow. Imagine if he heard the real Neil Young...
....lame-ass, jive, pseudo bluesy, out-of-tune, noodling, wimped out, fucked up playing....
