Title: We need a collaborative project!
Post by: funkle on July 06, 2010, 09:15:03 AM
I want to start the ball rolling on this idea of doing something which we could all contribute to. I think it could be fun to test the waters with something simple, which after building a baking track, we could all do a little solo, kind of a trading 8s kind of thing. What are your thoughts?

I say: "Watch out Scofield, There's a new ├╝berjam in town!"

I'd be up for it as long as the changes are not TOO adventurours, I would really struggle to play over most jazz progressions.

Agreed, no Giant steps or Proto Cosmos. A simple dom vamp, with an interesting bridge? Something like Red Baron?

"Slap leather, pardner!" The big guitar shoot-out at the OK Corral...BANG! plop! GOTCHA! or, it could be more subtle, more civilized...

Then when we're all sick of guitar solos I'll add in some keys ...

Sounds good to me! I love a good extended guitar/keyboard trade-off.
Now if we could just get an electric violinist....

Hey, maybe we could get Kenny G to spew some lame-ass, jive, pseudo bluesy, out-of-tune, noodling, wimped out, f***** up playing all over it :D

Why, when I could do that?

Hiya, Tom. It would be cool if we could get this going again. It's been stagnant since this past summer and it never made it past preliminary discussion(i.e. we ain't doing "Giant Steps" :) ).
It's gonna be a task to coordinate such a session, but we have an amazingly positive vibe on this forum, so if anyone could pull it off, why not us(by us, I don't necessarily mean me...I'm still a bit self-conscious  :-[ )?
Apparently, the official Allan Holdsworth forum(now defunct) did community-based recordings via the forum at one point.

Yeah it would be great to do such a thing! Perhaps as mentioned before we could start with a backing track and each lay down a solo then for future collaborations use a real drummer and bassist.

There's a great collaboration wiht a good format on YouTube from some amazing players:

Suhr Mega Jam -- Tom Quayle, Andy Wood, Martin Miller, Rick Graham (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNY9gJtNd6s#ws)

Well, it just so happens that we have our own bassplayers, keyboardists, drummers and about 470 guitar players; so, we could, in theory, construct our own backing track, which was the plan to begin with, I think.  The problem is there seems to be a lack of interest, lately.

How about we all get together and do a Christmas Tune?

But, with a Fusion bent?

Change the Rhythm a little? That type of thing.

Maybe a Samba?

Maybe something with a couple of interesting Time Changes?

5/4 Bridge in Let It Snow, or something like that?
